Natalie Portman, born Hershlag on June 9, 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel, is an Israeli American actress. She has started her acting career early while declining to be a child model when approached by Revlon. Her first role in “The Professional” has set stage for acting successes to come.
She appeared in secondary roles in “Heat, Everyone Says I Love You” and “Mars Attacks” and landed a support role in “Anywhere but Here”, acting opposite Susan Sarandon and having received a Golden Globe nomination in the category Best Supporting Actress. She was later cast for major role in all three episodes of the “Star Wars” trilogy. Once the first flick hit the screens, she gained a lot of popularity, making her an instant permanent A-list member. Her career continued with her appearances in “Garden State” and “Closer” earning her an Oscar nomination in the category Best Supporting Actress. In 2006, she performed in “The Other Boleyn Girl”, alongside Scarlett Johansson, a blockbuster “V for Vendetta” and later appeared in a music video “Dance Tonight” by Paul McCartney. Natalie was selected 33rd overall on Top 100 list by Maxim.
Her political affiliation is noteworthy because even though she has openly supported Hillary Clinton and later Barak Obama in the United States’ presidential election, displaying her left of center position; and at the same time being a part of right-wing pro-occupation crowd when it comes to politics in Israel. For example she was involved as a research assistant to Alan Dershowitz, a known Israel’s apologist.
