Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts, born on October 28, 1967 in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American actress. Despite her parents divorcing when she was just 4, their acting pasts have played an instrumental role in her career selection, along with her brother Eric and sister Lisa Roberts Gillan. From the early childhood, Julia participated in local productions before moving to New York to pursue her acting career professionally.

Julia started casting for television series and films and appeared in a minor role of “Blood Red”, “Crime Story” and “Sesame Street”, and later landed a supporting role in “Steel Magnolias”, for which she was nominated as a Best Supporting Actress.

Her huge break came when she got cast for “Pretty Woman” starring alongside Richard Gere after Meg Ryan turned down the role. The movie proved to be a huge commercial and critical success promptly elevating Roberts to the A-List. She followed up with her appearances in “Sleeping with the Enemy” and “Hook”, both huge box office successes. It is notable that director of “Hook” Steven Spielberg would not work with her after the movie.

Over the next few years she appeared in several movies and was a guest star on television series “Law and Order”, but her next major gig would not come until her performance in “Erin Brockovich”, a movie that earned her an Oscar for Best Actress. Even though her following performances in “Ocean’s Eleven”, “Ocean’s Twelve” and “The Mexican” were box office hits, her acting was not critically well-received. It is notable that she appeared alongside Tom Hanks in “Charlie Wilson’s War”, a movie widely viewed as a 25-years late anti-Soviet propaganda film.
